| COMMENTARY
In this issue we focus on how to increase the value of a web site. Lowering Content Management Costs: A burning issue for web site owners is the cost of maintaining a site. In the recent past, companies have bought expensive Content Management Systems [CMS] to bring site maintenance and content management in-house. Lured by promises of lowering overall costs, getting better control, and increasing the amount and value of content, CMS installations are now a feature at many large and mid-sized companies. However, according to a recent Internet.com article citing a report from Jupiter research, CMS have failed to live up to expectations. Product complexity and expensive administration, add to the already high cost of the initial purchase. To combat such escalating costs we have found that a new application developed by Macromedia called Contribute [$99 per user] has many of the same features that other, much higher cost vendors offer. Further, management of this product is a far simpler proposition. Click here to learn more about Macromedia Contribute. Strategies for Increasing Web Site Traffic: For many site owners a site's value depends on the number of people actively using it. For this reason generating traffic is critical. Click here to view an overview of the three most effective ways to increase traffic: e-mail, search engine optimization and link partnerships Case Study: Why Web Sites Fail - Part I: This case study is the first in a 3 part series that addresses the many reasons why web sites often do not achieve their intended goals. The first part addresses the often pernicious issue of cost. Click here to read the case study [PDF]. |
